Artist statement:
"Endangered species not only live in National parks but also in state forests. It's hard to comprehend that in Australia critical habitat gets destroyed through logging mainly to send wood chips overseas. There must be a better way. What upsets me most is how little value is given to these native trees." Context: Logging, the act of cutting down trees for wood, is the main contributor to deforestation. However, its consequences extend beyond mere forest depletion. A considerable portion of felled trees is left to litter the forest floor, heightening the likelihood of devastating bushfires. Additionally, tree removal punctures the forest canopy, allowing intensified sunlight and wind exposure to dry out fallen debris, rendering it highly flammable. The logging process exacts a toll on the planet, emitting carbon and exacerbating the global climate crisis with profound consequences. The common belief suggests that forests are primarily harvested for premium housing materials or high-quality wood items. However, the harsh truth reveals that the majority of logged trees are actually cleared for the production of inexpensive, low-value goods such as wood pallets, tomato stakes, and extensive quantities of wood chips. A significant portion of these materials is exported abroad and transformed into paper and cardboard products. wwf.org.au >> home ChatGPT ChatGPT Logging, the act of cutting down trees for wood, stands as a prominent contributor to deforestation.
